Looking back at MoMeD Summer school 2023

The Summer school has concluded, but the MoMed team is still full of impressions and good memories from this event. PhD fellows used this opportunity to train their presentation skills for posters and talks, to give each other feedback and to network in an informal setting.

This year we also had the students from the MoMeD steering committee hosting a brainstorming session about topics and events MoMeD students would like in their programme. We received many different suggestions, from “Silence and Wine” event and baking classes to more scientific events such as scientific writing workshops, mentor programmes and career events.

Key facts about this year’s Summer school:

  • It took place during two days in our traditional venue Pharmakon.
  • For the first time, we had 100 PhD students attending – a new record for our growing graduate programme!
  • We were excited to meet MoMeD supervisors from BRIC, reNEW, CPR, Danish Cancer society and other institutions!
  • There were 91 posters spread across Pharmakon, and we had sessions with 8 talks by PhD students in their 3rd year.

Each poster group determined best poster by anonymous voting within the group, and we are proud to announce the winners:

1) Amalie Holm (reNEW) – “Studying the origin of vascular leptomeningeal cell from human pluripotent stem cell cultures”

2) Andreas Ingham (CPR) – “Histone locus body components link histone trancription and Top2 inhibitor cytotoxicity”

3) Astrid Sophie Pejstrup Agger (Novo Nordisk / reNEW) – “Changes in the Molecular and Metabolic Profiles of hPSCs Grown in Suspension Compared to Adherent Cultures”

4) Dylan Scott Lykke Harwood (Rigshospitalet/BRIC) – ”Spatial profiling of glioblastoma with subcellular resolution”

5) Heidi Mjøseng (reNEW) – “Notch governs cell fate choices via hes1 using a deep gene regulatory network architecture”

6) Jaslin P. James (Herlev hospital) -  “Mucosal expression of pi3, anxa1, and vdr descriminates crohn’s disease from ulcerative colitis”

7) Josefine Christiansen (reNEW) – “Development of a functional hPSC‐based in vitro model of Alzheimer’s disease for phenotypic drug screening”

8) Larissa Alina Thurner (reNEW) – “The role of hyaluronic acid in shaping mucociliary epithelia”

9) Madeleine Linneberg-Agerholm (reNEW) – „Oct4 supports enhancer priming in the mouse primitive endoderm to enable plasticity in regulative development“

10) Mira Dombi (CPR) – „Structure and operating principles of mitochondrial replisome“

11) Sanasadat Pourtabatabaei (BRIC) – „Identifying and investigating the role of ribosome heterogeneity in pancreatic cancer“

 12) Sofie Ulfbeck Schovsbo (BRIC/Rigshospitalet) – “Generation and characterization of human CEBPA mutant acute myeloid leukemia models”

13) Virág Gehl (BRIC) – “Impact of IL-6 activation on tumor behavior and therapeutic sensitivities in bile duct cancer”

Best talk at the Summer school was anonymously chosen by all PhD students, and the award went to Catarina Azevedo (BRIC) for her talk entitled “Determining the cellular effect of genetic mutations with CRISPR-Select”.

The talks were chaired by our 1st year students – Juan Camacho Roda (BRIC), Frederik Post (CPR) and Viktoria Lavro (reNEW). Many thanks for taking up the task and mastering it!

Congratulations to the winners of best posters and talk - keep up the outstanding work!

See you at the next Summer school 2024!
