MoMeD Summer school 2025

MoMeD Summer school is an annual event which brings MoMeD PhD students and supervisors from different research environments and centers together. The two-day event offers an opportunity to network, to share knowledge, to hear about research of your peers and to attend workshops of your choice on scientific or transferable skills topics.

12-13 June 2025, including overnight stay in shared 2-bed rooms.

You will be able to write the name of your preferred roommate upon registration and we will do our best to accommodate your wishes.

The MoMeD Summer School 2025 will feature:

  • Scientific presentations from 3rd year PhD students
  • Poster sessions in smaller groups to practice the skill of poster presentation
  • Open poster sessions to network and discuss science with all MoMeD students and attending supervisors
  • Workshop of choice
  • Social activities and networking with your colleagues

All meals are provided. You will be able to indicate special dietary requests upon registration

Summer school is a course which gives ECTS, so remember to sign up at Graduate school course catalogue AND on this webpage to submit your abstract. Sign up deadline for both webpages - tba. Your registration will be complete ONLY when you have registered at both places.

Each student has to attend one workshop of choice. There will be 4 workshops to choose from. You will find a description for each workshop here later on.

There will be bus transportation to and from Pharmakon to BRIC (Ole Maaløes vej 5). You can indicate upon registration for Summer school if you need a bus.

Pharmakon is situated in the southern outskirts of Hillerød, approximately 1 km from train and bus terminal. There are S-trains to and from Copenhagen every 10 minutes during working hours; you can use this link to find the timetable "Rejseplanen". Travel time to Hillerød from Nørreport is about 45 minutes. From Hillerød station you can walk or go by bus 305E. Map and travel instructions by car: How to find your way.

Workshops at Summer school 2025

Are you curious about grants? Where to find them? How to get them? What is needed in a good application? All this will be covered in this interesting workshop held by our two grants specialists from the research support team at BRIC. You will be introduced to relevant grants and funding sources, look at how to write a winning grant and how to get started on writing a grant application.

The workshop will be held by Sasha Bermann and Agnieszka Krzyzanowska. Sasha is Grant Officer at BRIC. She has a master’s degree from Copenhagen Business School and 10 years experience in pre-award services and external research funding. Agnieszka Krzyzanowska is a Scientific Officer at the BRIC grant support team. She has a PhD in Neuroscience (Kings College London), many years of postdoctoral experience in Cancer Research (Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and Lund University) and an interest in scientific writing and communication.

At this career workshop you will meet two MoMeD alumni students: Stine Lind Hansen and Isidora Banjac. Both are now working at Novo Nordisk, but in two very different areas.

Stine and Isidora will talk about their career path into industry. How they use their acquired skills from the PhD in their current jobs and how the job in industry is compared to academia. They will talk about their current role and their daily work life and maybe most important, how they got the job! The workshop will end with a Q&A with both speakers.

Stine Lind Hansen has a bachelor’s and master’s in molecular biomedicine from the University of Copenhagen. She was a PhD student at BRIC (2017-2021) and a Postdoc at reNEW (2021-2023). Now, she works as a Senior Scientist at Novo Nordisk A/S in Cell Therapy Research (2023- ).

Isidora Banjac is a medical doctor from University of Belgrade, Serbia. She moved to Copenhagen for a PhD in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine at BRIC/ reNEW (2019-2023) . She has been working in Novo Nordisk Consulting since September 2023.

It is nearly impossible to be a PhD student and to avoid public speaking – this task awaits you at group meetings, research seminars, conferences and, eventually, your defense. It is an essential part of being a scientist, that is why it is important to be good at it. But how to make it work and are there tools to help you out?

At the Public speaking workshop, you will:

  • learn about public speaking in relevant contexts, such as conferences, group meetings, pitching for foundations
  • try out structures and tools for public speaking
  • find out how to make your voice and body language deliver your message.

Sabrina Vitting-Seerup is best known for being the first Dane to win the World Public Speaking Championship in 2016, and she has since won several science communications awards. She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies and is currently doing a Postdoc in Science Communication. Next to her research, she runs her company, Ren Snak, where she does science-based talks, acts as moderator for major events, and teaches others to make more impactful knowledge-centred presentations.

Every PhD student has to complete a change of research environment during their studies, and it seems like a challenging task: When to start planning? How to collaborate with supervisor on this and figure out responsibilities? When is the best time to go and for how long? And what about practical arrangements like funding and accommodation?

At this workshop, you will hear current and former MoMeD students talking about change of research environment and sharing their experiences. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and get the first-hand input!

Speakers:

Julia Hlavka-Zhang, postdoc, BRIC/Finsenlab: My research stay at the University of Edinburgh, UK

Virag Gehl, PhD student, BRIC: Change of research environment at Karolinska Institute

Virginia Metrangolo, postdoc, BRIC/Finsenlab: My experience at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA
